Social media is an ever-evolving entity in today’s world – and some of the best social media apps are the ones that connect the creative and the social in easy to use interfaces. Instagram is a perfect example of this, with it’s easy to use filters and sharing capabilities, and it’s mobile phone home base, it is one of the fastest growing social media options out there today. But I am not here to talk about Instagram – I am going to introduce you to my new favorite social media app: Vine.

Vine is a mobile app released in January of this year, created by Twitter. Vine enables its users to create short, 6 second, looping video quickly and easily, and then allows the user to share via the Vine community (aka: your friends and followers) and on subsequent social media accounts with a quick toggle of a switch.

What I love about Vine is that it gives users a perfect amount of control of starting and stopping the video recording just by touching, or removing a finger, from the screen. This allows users infinite possibilities for creative videos such as stop motion animation, clips and video montages. Mashable just posted 17 Awesome Vines of the SXSW Experience. Just watching these short videos helps to capture the SXSW experience and the videos are full of creative ideas and filming techniques.

Vine is very new and the implementation for Vine use by brands is in it’s infancy – but our prediction is that it will catch on fast. Why?

  • It’s easy to use which allows fun and spontaneous brand footage without a lot of prep or price.
  • The short Vine videos are small files, easy to share on websites and other social media accounts. Set up your Vine account for easy sharing to Facebook and Twitter.
  • Video is vital for your marketing.  According to an article in Forbes, in a recent survey by Software Advice titled B2B Demand Generation Benchmark Survey for 2012, most marketing respondents prefer video over white papers, case studies or live demonstrations due to its attention grabbing nature.

In the world of social media you really have nothing to lose by trying out a new app, especially as a chance to show off a brand experience or connect with customers.
